This will be a short update as it is the last of the year, and the group was small due to illness. We won’t have a Tuesday work day the weeks of December 21at and 28th so that volunteers can concentrate on the holidays. The Tuesday Crew comprised Bill Dobner, Dale Harshberger, Katie Shank, Daryl Stutley, Nancy Taylor Walker, Anna Wiktor-Becker, and me.

Bill worked with the compost and checked the shade house for plants outside the range of the irrigation system

The rest of us continued to work in the Trail of Trees clearing Encelia californica, upright Baccharis, weed trees, and mustard. The group also tackled the root sprouts from around the flowering plum. The following images tell the tale….

Dale, Daryl, Anna and Katie digging out the sprouts. Because they are coming up from the roots, they’ll probably be back, but more slowly than if they were just cut off at ground level.

Daryl in denial (only kidding!) about the large patch of mustard behind her. Before we left, all the blooming mustard was dug out. We’ll have to revisit the patch and remove more of the small plants as they age and start to bloom.

Many thanks to Nancy for her images.

May you all have a happy and healthy holiday season, and best wishes for the new year.

Enjoy the garden….KMM
