There are over 750 types of salvia growing throughout the world. Many are exhibited in the Garden collection. At least 10 are California native species. Salvias come in a variety of shapes and colors, have an appealing fragrance and low water requirements . The native species can cover dry slopes, filling in rapidly once established. Many hybrids combine well in home landscapes. The Salvia Garden is currently being expanded to accomodate a broader collection of this important plant.
