Little Loop Trail

Prior to European settlement, oak woodlands occurred over large areas of California. Soon after settlement, oaks were removed from the majority of the woodland landscape for reasons including fuel use, building and fencing materials, cattle grazing and land development. Oaks in general, and particularly valley oaks, are now protected in many areas including the Conejo Valley.

 There two types of native oak trees that occur naturally throughout the garden. The Valley Oak (Quercus lobata) is deciduous and the Coastal Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia) is evergreen.
